Are there any Record Labels In Ghana?

There are almost as many labels as there are artistes today. One would have expected that the trend will translate into injunction of more money into the industry but no. The reasons are simple, most of these

labels are set up by artistes to promote their own music and not to run a professional label.

For most artistes, executive producers and independent labels are merely parasites. Artistes expect executive producers to pump money into their works and yet render such all profits as accrue from their venture to them.

Out of that greed, most artistes set up so called labels today. Labels which exists mostly only in name. These last few years, few have performed commendably. Big Ben has made strides in the area of promoting artistes while Slip made remarkable gains in the area of managing artistes.

Today, Lynx Entertainment and the Skillions are holding their own. It is important to note that these labels are not making much in terms of sales, royalties and other finance sources often associated with proper record labels. However, they have what is closest in resemblance to a record label. There are of course a few labels doing very well in their own right. Freedom Family Entertainment, Kojo Antwi's label and Family Tree Entertainment, Obour's label. There are a few others doing well.

Nonetheless, the solution is not in the multiplicity of labels formed out of greed to further the lot of myopic, misconstrued and parochial interests of a few. This is the time for the so called labels to get together and form a proper labels to try and attract investors.

Just may be it's about time the Zapp Mallets and other recently formed label owners thought of merging and working together for the best of the industry. In terms of structure, form, resource and operations there is indeed no one of these so called labels that can be called one.
