THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL and Minister of Justice Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu has declared the government's commitment to developing the music industry to enable it move forward in the right direction.

She noted that in the National Democratic Congress's manifesto, the government promised change. “I hope that we in the copyright sector will change our attitude for the better.

It is in this vein that my ministry has taken the steps to make limited amendment to the Copyright Act 205, Act 690 to provide transitional powers to COSGA which was not served under this Act to function and to enable the operation of the security device which is to be used for audio and audiovisual works”, she stated.

Addressing a general meeting of all members of Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA) at the KAMA Conference centre in Accra, the Minister disclosed that she had proposed an amendment to be effected in respect of the provisions on the security device in Act 690 to allow the minister to permit an individual to use an alternative security provided that device is superior to what the ministry and the stakeholders will be using.

She promised that the Bill would soon be put before Parliament, which will reconvene on October 27.

She was of the view that the copyright system in the country has gone through various phases of development, but some of the phases, she said, are nothing to write home about.

Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu added that it was surprising and unfortunate that there was no harmony among the persons who make up the crop of creative talents in Ghana.
