Professional MUA Charges Nollywood: Make Up In Movies Can Be Better Than What We Have Now
27.06.2014 LISTEN

Professional makeup artiste (MUA) and beauty expert, Vanessa Odofin has said that make up in most Nollywood movies do not portray the characters suitably enough for the roles they play. According to her, makeup artistes in movie industry need to be professionally trained in order to deliver world class services that will better portray characters in ways they should be.

Vanessa Odofin, a Nigerian-based makeup and beauty expert who has trained over one thousand makeup artists in Nigeria and abroad, believes that a touch of professionalism would go a long way in upgrading the standard of our makeup artists and in turn impact the movie industry positively.

Speaking 'the makeup jobs done in Nollywood can be so much better than what is obtainable; there is need for professionalism and improvement in the industry. It is the job of a makeup artist to convey believability for instance in the transition of a teenager to an adult in a movie without changing the character and this I believe our Nollywood practitioners are not doing enough, though there are some exceptions to the rule.'

Vanessa runs Vanadale Beauty Company, a makeup and training outfit in Lagos. Her beauty outfit Vanadale is organizing training for makeup artists, upcoming makeup artists and all those who want to acquire makeup expertise for personal use. The workshop which would be coming up on the 5th and 19th of July is also open existing MUA in Nollywood. Registration can be done online via www.vanadale.com

According to her 'the training is not just for Nollywood practitioners alone; individuals who want to know about makeup and those who want to turn makeup artistry into a full time job can also come along as well. There would be a discount for the first 20 people who register for the training'.

The training session would feature unique course outlines, free start up tools and professional brush sets, work tools and t-shirts, and a syndicate session that will show how to make money in the industry, tagged 'show me the cash.'
