Creative Writers Connect In Lagos…My Experience!

An awesome experience it was, said some of the participants who spoke after the 1st Connect Nigeria Writers Conference held at Protea Hotel-Ikoyi. So it was too for this reporter who also acquired imperative writing skills from professionals at the conference.

Spiced with short breaks and interactive sessions intermittently, the hours spent at the luxurious Protea Hall had Ike Nnaebue rupturing the process of Scriptwriting , Lekan Otufodunrin enlightened in literal terms what 'Online Editing' is, Adaku Ufere took the participants on a short ride into 'The Business of Fashion Writing' describing it as descriptive writing requiring a romance with words, however, the first speaker, Seun Salami started by motivating the participants to 'start' as it is the best way to learn through practice, while in conclusion, Okechukwu Ofili challenged the participants with easy steps to becoming a published author.

The Writers' Conference was targeted at aspiring writers to help them develop the requisite skill to thrive in today's business environment. I attended on account of dual identity, as a writer who wanted to learn, and a reporter covering the exploits of the Connect Nigeria Team.

Emeka Okafor reinstated that the 1st Connect Nigeria Writers' Conference is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of ConnectNigeria.com aimed at contributing to societal development through education.

According to Emeka who spoke on behalf of Team Connect Nigeria-the organizers; 'at Connect Nigeria what we do is social work, we understand the importance of business writing and in line with our corporate objective, which is to make information easily and readily available for Nigerians, we consider it a responsibility to play a part in empowering Nigerians with the requisite skills as it pertains to building businesses and improving lives'.
