As the war against piracy gets hotter, the Chairman of Ojo-Alaba Film Makers and Distributors Association of Nigeria, Chief Edwin Oragwa, is currently on the run over piracy.

Oragwa, proprietor of Deraco Production, whose office is located at 13, Naruratu Street, Isolo, Lagos, was said to have abandoned his Toyota Camry car with registration number EG 906 MSK and his wife at the Isolo Police Station, to escape arrest by the police.

He was invited by the police following a petition written against him at the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) headquarters. After several invitations which he did not honour, the film producer was reportedly lured to Ajao Estate, where he was arrested and taken to the Isolo Police Station.

NFC gathered that he parked his car in the premises of the station and told them that he was going to show them a document. But he did not show up.

NFC gathered that when the police waited for him to show up but did not, they went to his house where his wife and workers frustrated them from carrying out their duties. The police reinforced and arrested them, and took them to the station.

Rather than show up after the arrest of his wife and workers, the suspect has so far refused to show up. The police later charged his wife and workers to the Isolo Magistrate's Court for obstructing police investigation.

When NFC met him at his hideout, he confirmed that he was actually on the run, adding that his poor health also necessitated his decision not to visit the station. He confirmed that the police were looking for him to arrest him and take him to Abuja.

“Some of my members have been arrested. If I am arrested and kept behind the bars, there would be nobody to bail other members of the association arrested by the police. That is another reason why I cannot go to the station now,” he stated.

His wife, Uche, denied any involvement in any crime. She told NFC at the premises of the Isolo Magistrate's Court that she has been detained since last Friday. Efforts to bail her proved abortive before she was arraigned in court.
