General Reading - Ephesians 6:1-4 Memory Verse - Isaiah 26:3

Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it. 1 Peter 3:11

Peace is an essential commodity the world over. As an individual, family, community and nation, we need peace to survive and continue in the world. Peace is very critical for the family unit. When the home is in disarray, the successes, creative abilities and the future of such home will be seriously endangered. When we do not acknowledge our essential needs, our required needs and progress will be denied or destroyed. When the husband, wife, children and all who make up the home carry on in their activities as though they don’t care who is hurting or who is happy, very soon, their individual progress will be halted and then they will know that no building makes any progress greater than its functional foundation.

The peace of your home is critical to the success of your life. As difficult as it is for a baby bird to survive without the comfort of the mother’s nest, so difficult – if not more- it is for any person to survive without the peace of the home. The peace of the home is not a ferry-tale that is created and told by a peacock by the window side. It is a reality that is created by every partaker’s contribution. Everyone has a role to play; the father, mother, children and all who find succor within the home.

I start with the father and mother for I do know that when the head is rotten, the whole body will smell. Fathers have major and godly roles to play in ensuring the peace of the home. The first is in leading the home in the order of the Bible. whether you like it or not, no product functions better than the way it is prescribed for in its manual. The family set up is a product of God and He has shown us how to order it – as it concerns all members – in the word. Neglecting the governance of the family by the word is simply spelling doom for the home. When you replace the word of God with self appointed or cultural wisdom in the home, then you are setting up a family that has no true cure when it becomes sick.

When the word of God governs the home, the value of love and sacrifice will become the tradition and deep seated practice of all in the home. True peace comes when everyone in the home feels secured, loved, respected and future guaranteed. And peace is lost when these virtues are not in place. No matter how you use your authority – mother, father, older siblings – to oppress or suppress others, when inner peace is denied, outer peace is a mere fantasy that is only seen from afar in the dream.

A lovely and peaceful home is not a place where there are no challenges – for there is no home as such in this side of eternity – but it is a place where all members of the family in the strength of love, peace and unity of purpose confront every challenge that comes their way. It is a place where giving glory and praise to God is a shared value and responsibility. A peaceful home is a place where the Lord Jesus Christ is the king and His word the constitution. It does not matter the challenges you are going through in your family right now, as you trust God Almighty, the owner of your life and family, all your challenges will bow in Jesus name. Peace be unto you. Halleluiah!

ACTION GUIDE: Take some time to pray for peace in your home and every home that is hurting; ask the Lord to heal them in Jesus name.
