Career & Money 3 Success Lessons You Can Learn From The Newaccra Achievers List 2015
APR 17, 2015 LISTEN

It is good to celebrate the success of other people. It is even better to learn from them and improve yourself.

Last week, thirty of Ghana's unsung impact makers were honoured in 'The Newaccra Achievers Report; Thirty Ghanaians About To Shake The World'.

This list has generated a lot of excitement in the area of youth achievement. If you look beyond the honour and pay close attention to the conduct of the honourees, you will notice at least three behaviours common among successful people;

Successful people are humble
By far, humility and gratitude were the most common reactions of the people honoured in this year's list. Some of the achievers were surprised, and others gave credit to other individuals, mentors or God.

For example, CitiFM's Philip Kofi Ashon said on his blog 'It felt weird. Really it did. I am not sure what I had done to deserve to be on there. Yet, I was It was a truly humbling experience.'

Being humble and being grateful are related. The first makes it easier to do the second.

Humility is important for many reasons. Leadership coach Kwamina Ekremet explains that leaders who are not humble cannot excel. This is because they are not in tune with the needs of their people and want everything to be about just themselves. If you really want to be a lasting success, you need to be humble.

Successful people read wide.
Among investors, there is a saying that the difference between success and failure is information. Many of the people on the Newaccra Achievers List displayed evidence of reading.

It appears several of the achievers read the full 27 page report. Some, like Public Relations specialist Philip Osei Bonsu, even quoted parts of the report to update their Facebook pages.

In today's super competitive world, reading wide is more important than ever. By reading a good book, you can learn in thirty minutes what the writer learnt in thirty years.

No wonder the world richest man, Bill Gates loves to read and even blog about his yearly reading list. You just have to love acquiring knowledge if you want to succeed.

Successful people are goal driven
The 2015 achievers do not sound interested in sitting down and relaxing on their honours at all. As soon as they finish saying their thanks, they are quick to talk about what is next for them. This tells a lot about the honourees and the list itself.

Sustainable agriculture entreprenuer, Joshua Ayinbora, Trotro Diaries' Yaw Odoom, Young At Heart's Josephine Marie Godwyll, and Gnalet's Kenneth Owusu-Akyaw all made it very clear that they had more things up their sleeves.

We wish them the very best because in the end, 'they are on the move, and they are moving towards a prosperous Ghana. It is in our interest to start supporting them today.'

The Newaccra Achievers Report 2015 is a compilation of unsung impact makers in diverse fields. It is considered a credible reference for policy makers, entreprenuers, investors, donors, media, civil society, and the wider community. The Report is published by Newaccra Magazine, a leading brand on a mission to become Africa's most trusted name in success and personal development.
