TEXT: ISAIAH 3:1-12

Key verse: “The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not…” ( Isaiah 3:9 ).

The fallen nature of man condemns him to a sinful lifestyle. Man comes into this world with the apparatus of sin and he cannot overcome temptations in his human power. Therefore, it is not when a man commits sin that he becomes a sinner; he commits sin principally as a result of his sinful nature (Psalm 51:5).

The passage for consideration today reveals God's testimony of the blatant sinfulness of the children of Israel and the promised judgment of God upon them. The catalogue of the sinfulness of the children of Israel in spite of their covenant relationship with God reveals unbelief, doubt, disobedience, idolatry, murmuring, wickedness among others; and for these, God promised to punish them (verse 11).

The same fallen nature has held souls of men of contemporary times in all manner of vice. They have come to glamourise sin; when they indulge in fornication, they claim they are 'catching fun'; those who commit adultery term it 'having an affair', those who steal, cheat or falsify accounts claim that they are trying to help themselves. And when they tell lies, they excuse it on 'applying wisdom.'

As believers, we must not condone sin. Although God is the God of goodness and of love, He is also the God of justice; He promises to recompense and punish infractions against His declared word and statutes.

As we go about our business today, we must ensure that we do all things to the glory of God. Anything that amounts to glamourising sin should be avoided in our own interest. We must take heed.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The body of sin can only be destroyed by the blood of Jesus.
