Pastor Sam Adeyemi           |                   John 12 verse 24

While Jesus was on the earth, He operated under the Abrahamic covenant. He could not reach out to the Gentiles until He had gone to the Cross. Even when He sent out His disciples, they were sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel; not to the Samaritans. In response to the demand by Greeks to see Jesus, He said “unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain”. Jesus knew that there was a higher dimension to the impact of His life and ministry. He knew that to reach the Gentiles, He had to translate to a new level. Someone once said “For you to do something that you have never done before, you must become someone that you have never been before”. Jesus was describing the root to a higher level of impact, influence and achievement.  You must cease to exist at your current level and evolve to a higher level of life so as to produce results that you have never produced before. This explains why many never realise their full potentials; the current individual must “die”, before a new individual can evolve. People find it difficult to bridge the gap between who they are now and who God wants them to be. Dying here is not referring to physical death but rather losing control of your life and taking big risks in obedience to God.

When God wants to move you from one level to another, He will test your absolute trust and faith in Him. When individuals avoid taking risks for God and decide to take shortcuts, they end up getting trapped at a particular level. If Jesus did not agree to show trust in God and go to the Cross, we would not have access to Abraham's blessings today. Dying and letting go of the familiar is not easy. Sometimes, people around you would not want you to “die” because, like Peter, they are only thinking of what benefits they will lose. To leave your current level, you will need to delegate. Abram had to die for Abraham to evolve; Jacob had to die for Israel to evolve.

A young man sensed that his destiny was greater than it currently was and so he came to Jesus to ask what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him to sell all he had and give it to the poor. He left very sorrowful. The problem was not that he was a rich man but that he trusted in his riches, drew his esteem and identity from his current level of success and did not want to let go so he could lay hold on a higher level of success. He, therefore, missed an opportunity to move on to a higher level (Mark 10:17-30). If you will move to a new level, you must turn your current level, which is a harvest from an earlier seed, into a seed. Sometimes, God is no longer speaking to some people because they have not obeyed the last instruction He gave. You have to take bold steps and be willing to obey God.
