999 mother saves baby four times

A mother from Bristol resuscitated her baby boy four times when he stopped breathing - with the help of a 999 operator on the phone.

Driving instructor Cordelia Nolan, 25, said she was "petrified" when her 10-week premature baby, Emrys, lost his colour and turned blue.

Ms Nolan started resuscitation straight away and a cousin dialled 999 and relayed the operator's instructions.

Phone operator Jennifer Riley praised the actions of Ms Nolan.

"Without her help, Emrys would almost certainly have died before the three paramedics arrived.

"I didn't have a lot of hope which is why I'm so thrilled.

"Both the gentleman on the phone and the mother were very impressive, especially as it was a blind situation.

"You have to trust that the person on the end is doing what you are telling them," Ms Riley said.

Ms Nolan's cousin, Kieran Byrne, 24, was visiting her at home in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol and relayed instructions from the Great Western Ambulance servicer operator.

Paramedics arrived during the 10-minute call to find the baby's breathing had been restored and rushed him to Bristol Children's Hospital.

Ms Nolan said her maternal instinct had taken over and she was able to keep up the resuscitation procedure until the paramedics arrived.

Emrys had now made a full recovery. A urine infection was found to be the cause of his seizure.
