A 17-year old boy, Abdulrasaq Amusa, on Friday testified against his father, Tajudeen Amusa, at an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court in a divorce suit filed by his mother, Bosede.

NAN reports that the case first came up for mention on 18 June. Bosede had sought the court to dissolve her marriage to her husband (Tajudeen) on grounds of public disgrace, frequent fighting and lack of care for her and the three children.

Abdulrasaq told the court that since his father got married to another woman, he has not been performing his duties as a father.

He said there was a time his mother asked for upkeep of the house, but instead of responding to their mother's demand, he beat her and she was hospitalized.

He said that change of his school by his father forced him (witness) to abandon further education to learn aluminium handwork.

Abdulrasaq said before his mother engaged herself in petty trading, she usually borrow money and thereby was indebted to a lot of people.

He told the court that he decided to help his mother due to her debt level, which he said was embarrassing with the little he gets from the menial jobs he engaged himself.

According to him, the proceeds of their joint efforts were what they use for their upkeep and for the education of his siblings.

However, Abdulrasaq urged the court not to dissolve the marriage, but to settle the matter amicably between the two parties.

The President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, adjourned the case to 11 September for further hearing after hearing from the witness.
