Strategic Communication Africa Ltd., (Stratcomm Africa) has officially unveiled the first ever Innovative Ghana Garden And Flower Show at a media launch in Accra.

According to Stratcomm Africa, the event is in partnership with the Department of Parks & Gardens, NBC Ghana Trust and in collaboration with Keith Kirsten, a world renowned garden and flower expert and would take place from 29 - 31 August, 2013.

The aim of this show is to demonstrate the potential that exists for growing this aspect of the natural resources for commercial and aesthetic purposes.

The theme for the event is Sustainable Gardening in Ghana and will cover the following areas including, 'Towards a national sustainable Gardening Policy, Sustainable gardening for income generation (including export) as well as Sustainable gardening for health and beautification

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of Stratcomm Africa Madam Esther Cobbah said gardens and flowers are important for creating the kind of environment that is pleasant and uplifting for human beings.

She noted that there is every reason for Ghanaians to be interested in how the surrounding is improved, especially in the cities where most people currently reside.

'It is not surprising that a Department of Parks and Gardens was created by the First President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, to be responsible for creating Parks and Gardens in the urban areas of the country,' Madam Esther Cobbah stated.

She also indicated that Stratcomm Africa was pleased to be collaborating with various organizations and individuals including the department of Parks and Gardens in the Garden and Flower event.

'The collaboration involves two individuals, Kwame Ayew, a Ghanaian who is also very passionate about gardens and flowers and Keith Kirsten, a South African who is one of the world's leading horticultural specialists and often referred to as South Africa's favourite gardener; we are happy that we able to bring a person of such international stature in the horticultural industry to Ghana for this show,' Madam Esther Cobbah disclosed.

She said among the things that the Garden and Flower Event will encourage is to whip up more interest amongst all Ghanaians in how to use gardens and flowers to create a better environment for ourselves, whether in our homes, in offices, in schools and in all appropriate spaces.

'Ghana is blessed with the right climate for growing flowers of all kinds. In fact, the major natural resources that we have, good soils, sun, rainfallcan help us achieve so much if put them to good use. Developing exports of flowers can be a major foreign exchange-eaner for the country,' Madam Esther Cobbah emphasized.

Touching on job creation, she made it clear that school leavers, University graduates and others looking for jobs can learn about this field and consider taking up the opportunities.

In addition we believe that government may also find it worthwhile to include this among its employment generation as well as non-traditional export development initiatives.

In this way, there will be benefits for our tourism and for our drive to attract investment into Ghana from our becoming identified with a drive for promoting gardens and flowers as part of an aesthetically satisfying and sustainable environment, ' Madam Esther Cobbah maintained.

She further revealed that the Gardens and Flower show will involve an exhibition as well as a conference and workshops.

Madam Esther Cobbah pointed out that the exhibition which would be an annual event will showcase creations and facilities of leading florists and garden enthusiasts, as well as garden and flower-related products such as flower pots, garden furniture and garden tools.

'The conference reflects the objective of using this event as a launch pad for a national movement for promoting gardens and flowers,' Madam Esther Cobbah said.
