FashionMist: African Fashion coming out of the Mist

1st June 2013: Hotel Russell, London - Following on from two previous successful shows, FashionMist was back againthis summer with an array of diverse talent and products to showcase to the guestsassembled.

FashionMist's aim is to showcase on one platform emerging young designers ofAfrican origin who reflect the continent's creativity and the use of African textilesin their products to infuse it with a modern western flair. This is either throughclothes, accessories to name a few. It also seeks to create a network for thedesigners to interact and inspire the fashion conscious crowd in attendance.

FashionMist was in two parts. The first part consisted of an exhibition which wasfree to attend. On show was a more diverse range of products - clothes,accessories, beauty, kids and men's wear. And numerous guests in attendance hada lot to feast their eyes on and purchase. During the exhibition a makeup seminarwas hosted by Youtube Makeup guru Chanel Boateng (www.chanelboateng.com)to a seated audience. They were enlightened with useful tips and advice and agoodie bag.

Before the evening's event guests had pre drinks and were able to network andinteract with press, exhibitionists and organisers. Interviews were conducted bythe lovely Edma Ohemaa Lawer as well as our ambassador for last year NanaAfua Antwi.

The highlight of the day was the fashion catwalk event, where designers unveiledtheir new collection to a seated ticketed audience, interspersed with music and thenew dance craze 'Azonto' Our Hosts on the night were - the comedian A-Dot andour gorgeous ambassador Rachael Williams.

On the runway were, Wusuwaah's Diary, Kolture Apparel, Sa4a, N'kya Designs,Afriqan Apeiron, A'Cote Collections, Sarfo, M.A.F Couture and Ms Ray Couture.

Designers who exhibited to the general public during the day included, AyikaiCouture, Celebrity Hair, House of Loulee, Kizmet Designer Jewellery, Yaa Ataa Couture Bags, Alexaire's Box, Heritage, NADJ, Alternatives, Gita's Portal, Houseof Aranu, 5th Avenue Collection, Amaya, Arhin Armah, Glamz Beautique,Jokemish, Diva Jewels and Lovely Notebooks

Entertainment on the night was provided by Twi Teacher ( www.twiteacher.com)as well as a dance ensemble from a trio of ladies (Nada, Bimpe and Starlet). Ourhost and comedian A-Dot had our guests laughing away!

For our 3rd season FashionMist teamed up with international commercial modelMiss Rachael Williams (www.rachaeljwilliams.com). Together with Rachael we raised funds for the WAM Campaign (www.wamcampaign.org) W.A.M (WhatAbout Me!) is an initiative aimed at providing young people with exciting creativeplatforms to contribute to the lives of orphans and vulnerable children living inGhana. A raffle was held on the night and all proceeds went towards thecampaign. Prizes for the raffle were donated by sponsors such as Sweet HandzRestaurant, Clause Bar as well as some of our participating designers includingKizmet Designer Jewellery, Sarfo, Ms Ray Couture and Sa4a.

To the designers taking part, their aim was to ensure that their label wasshowcased on a platform to portray and raise awareness of their inspiration drawnfrom the African continent. A recurrent theme through out was to highlight thecreation of sustainable income and fair trade for those involved in production ofthe products on display and the guarantee of quality and authenticity in materialsthey use. Lastly they all seek to promote African identity and pride, whichFashionMist seeks to promote.
