Ditch the razor, get the date. Women find men most attractive with a 10-day stubble, finds a new study in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior.
Women rated photographs of the same guys with different stages of facial hair. The results: Clean-shaven and full-bearded looks were tied for a close second, while the classic 5-day stubble look ranked last.
Want to pull off a 10-day beard that will make her swoon? Follow these three super-simple rules:
Keep It Neat
Growing a beard doesn't give you license to be lazy with your grooming routine. Your beard line is halfway between your Adam's apple and your chin, says Allan Peterkin, author of One Thousand Beards: A Cultural History of Facial Hair. Keep the line neat by fading its edges with a pair of trimmers. And don't forget about your cheeks—you don't want to look like your beard has devoured your face. If hair creeps up toward your cheekbone, use the same trimmers to let your skin show.
Keep It Smooth
Bad hair days aren't just for the strands on your head. Control those pesky patches in your fuzz with a light-hold pomade with a matte finish. (No woman likes a greasy-looking beard.)
Keep It Soft
Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. The skin under your beard might be hard to reach, but you should still cleanse and moisturize it to keep your skin and hair soft—both.
