NEW: Ghana Tourist Villas offers an unforgettable holiday and business experience in Accra.
REVEREND OSEI Bimpong, an associate Pastor of the Covenant Family Community Church in Cantonments, Accra, has stated that because many couples take marriage for granted, the marriage institution is bedeviled with problems.
Rev. Bimpong, who is also the Director of the Public Affairs division of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), urged marriage couples not to take their marriage for granted but work to keep it healthy and strong.
The Associate Pastor made the remarks when he launched a book entitled “Conflict Resolution in Marriage”, which was authored by Eddie Cofie.
Launching the 37-paged book, Rev. Bimpong noted that most counseling sessions organized by churches for young people preparing for marriage left the married couple on their own after the wedding.
He bemoaned the absence of post marital counseling for marriage couples which inadvertently did not equip such couples to manage or resolve conflict in their marriages.
According to Rev. Bimpong, parents do not really educate their children on marriage life but only urge them to go into it without the necessary 'equipment' to deal with the difficulties and challenges associated with marriage.
In reviewing the book, Rev. Paddy Brew, accused men of being the cause of many of the problems that led to the breakup of many marriages.
He recommended the book for men, especially the chapter 6 on page 28, which is “For Men Only” that if men could spend time to read that chapter, it would help ensure the sustenance of their marriage life.
Rev. Brew commended the author for choosing to launch his book in Ghana even though he lived and worked in New York in the United States.
The Author, Mr. Cofie, described the book as a dream come true for him to make some contribution towards managing conflicts in marriage.
He said conflict in marriage was inevitable but gave the assurance that every marriage had a bright future though through some crooked journeys.
Mr. Cofie was of the view that many bad marriages was due to the fact that, the people involved find it difficult to confide in others and tell them their problems adding that problem shared is half solved.
This he said the author attributed to lack of confidentiality, urging people to accept and be prepared to offer good counseling to those in trouble.
The first three copies were auctioned for GH¢6,000.
