About 500 supporters and sympathisers of Mr. George Kumi, a parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani East Constituency have held a massive demonstration in the Sunyani Municipality.

The supporters wearing red bands and party t-shirts which bears the image of Mr. George Kumi, were also holding placards to express their displeasure on a marginal one vote loss by Mr. George Kumi in the NPP Constituency Parliamentary Primary on Saturday, June 13th at Pastoral Centre in Sunyani.

According to the leaders and organisers of the demonstration, the incumbent Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh was declared winner through fouls mean again both the Municipal Director of Electoral Commission (Yaw Opoku), the Chairman of Constituency Elections Committee and the entire Constituency Executives acted unfairly which aided Ameyaw Cheremeh to win.

They are added that, "The Municipal Director of Elections, Yaw Opoku compromised his position to the advantage of Hon. Ameyaw who was his mate in school to the election."

The organisers alleged that the Director of Electoral Commission opposed to their appeal when Mr. Kumi's agent called for a recount, saying, "He was in charge and nobody could teach him his work."

The route of the demonstration started from the forecourt of the Sunyani Post Office the principal streets of Sunyani and ended at the catering rest house.

The information on the placards read; No Kumi No Vote, Let My Vote Count, Kumi is our hope, Kumi go independent, Ameyaw stole our ballot, Sunyani East Executives are robbers, etc.

The leaders of the demonstration sent a letter of petition to the Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party in Sunyani stating that the protest is to draw the attention of the leaders of NPP to rise up to its mandate of being a democratic pace setter.

The Regional Secretary of the Party, Mr. Alfred Aryeh appealed to them to calm down and come together as one family whilst they prepare to forward the letter of petition to the party's headquarters in Accra.

Mr. George Kumi, a former Ambassador to Libya and also High Commissioner to Nigeria in the Former President John Agyekum Kuffour administration, had 387 votes while the incumbent Mr. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh had 388 votes in the keenly contested election.
