Afoko Brother Threatened To Kill NPP Officer -Group

It has emerged that Gregory Afoko, younger brother of New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Paul Afoko – who is standing trial for the murder of the party's Upper East Regional Chairman, Alhaji Adams Mahama – once threatened to kill Kamal Deen Abdulai, the NASARA National Coordinator of the party.

A group calling itself Youth for Afoko (YOFA) disclosed this in a statement, threatening to quit the party if the NPP National Chairman is impeached.

On Wednesday, May 20, Ghanaians were hit with the shocking news of acid attack on the dynamic NPP regional chairman in Bolgatanga, leading to his death a few hours later on Thursday.

Two people who are suspected to have been involved in the pouring of the acid on the NPP guru have been identified and one (Gregory Afoko) is currently in police custody charged with murder. 

Threat To Kill
Nana Tweneboah Kodua, Yaw Asiama and Gilbert Afoakwa, who claim to be members of the group, said in the statement that 'It is on record that last year, Kamal Deen, the NASARA Coordinator of the NPP, wrote a letter to Mr. Paul Afoko indicating that his brother Gregory, had threatened to kill him so he wanted them to settle the matter amicably as brothers. Mr. Kamal Deen gave a copy of the letter to the high ranking members of the NPP,' the group claimed.

The members said they did not understand the reason why Kamal Deen distributed copies of his letter to most of the top members of the NPP, including Mr. Afoko quizzing, 'Was the letter a set-up against Mr. Paul Afoko?'

'Exactly a year After, Mahama Adams gets murdered, and Gregory gets arrested.  Kamal Deen has admitted to have called the late Adams and warned him to be careful, the day before he kicked the bucket. We therefore call on the security agencies to invite Kamal Deen for indepth interrogation. He seems to know something Ghanaians do not know,' they said.

DAILY GUIDE checks with Kamal Deen indicated that indeed, he wrote the letter which was served on Mr. Afoko and other national executives of the party.

Impeachment
The unfolding events in the party in recent times, culminating in the unfortunate death of Chairman Mahama, has compelled some regional executives who claim they were under pressure from the rank and file of the party to try and impeach Mr. Afoko and the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

According to them, they did not understand why some members of the party 'are seeking Mr. Afoko’s impeachment instead of seeking for justice for the late Adams Mahama. We do not want to believe this whole thing was a calculated agenda to push Mr. Afoko out of office. We do not believe in bloodshed. Justice must prevail.'
