NPP SK Boafo Calls For Calm In NPP
MAY 27, 2015 LISTEN

Former Chieftaincy Minister Sampson Kwaku Boafo has called for truce within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the face of the rising tension in the party.

According to him, the biggest opposition party stands the chance of winning the 2016 general elections and must therefore do away with all petty feuding in the interest of the party and Ghanaians who are yearning for change.

Mr Boafo made the call yesterday in Accra, saying peace is the only thing that can bring the NPP success in 2016.

Confusion has rocked the biggest opposition party following the sudden death of its Upper East Regional Chairman, Alhaji Adams Mahama, who was reportedly attacked with acid last Wednesday resulting in his untimely death.

NPP National Chairman and Secretary, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong respectively, have been blamed for the conflicts rocking the party, with party executives now calling for their resignation.

But Mr Boafo has said it is time the party stopped the blame game and forged ahead for 2016.

He appealed to the NPP 2016 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, to do all he can in his capacity to arrest the tension within the party, signaling that the party cannot survive if its supporters remain at war with each other.

'If care is not taken the party may collapse. The blame game should stop,' the former Chieftaincy Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration said, adding that a house divided against itself cannot stand.

He further urged that aggrieved factions within the party should allow the police to investigate the murder of Mr Mahama.
