NPP Nana Ohene Ntow rubbishes NPP vote of no confidence; it's of no effect
MAY 26, 2015 LISTEN

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Ohene Ntow says a vote of no confidence by some regions on the party chairman and General Secretary is “null and void”.

He pointed out on Adom FM’s 'Dwaso Nsem' Tuesday that the process did not follow laid down procedures outlined in the party’s constitution.

Article 10 of the NPP constitution states
"1 (a) Whenever forty percent (40%) of the delegates that elect Constituency, Regional and National officers as the case may be, give written notice to the Constituency, Regional or National Executive as the case may be, of the demand for the removal of any elected officer, the executive Committee which receives such notice shall within one (1) week of receipt of the notice circulate such notice to all delegates affected.

"(b) The petition for the removal of an officer shall be on stated grounds, a copy of which shall be given to the affected officer who shall be given the opportunity to be heard by a body constituted by the Executive Committee.

"2. Within one (1) month of the circulation of such notice referred to in clause (1), the said Executive Committee shall summon an Extraordinary Delegates Conference to deliberate and decide on the matter."

According to the former General Secretary, “none of these provisions,” have been respected.

He said those against Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong have not been able to provide any evidence to back their claim that the two national executives have received monies from ruling government to work against their flagbearer.

“If we cannot work with our constitution then the party is in trouble….“If we say we are democrats why can’t we work with our constitution?” he wondered.

According to Nana Ohene Ntow, their rival, the governing NDC are forming committees and putting structures in place to win the 2016 elections.

But his party, he noted is engaged in bickering and wranglings to remove the party chairman and General Secretary.

He conjectured that if the two are removed and are aggrieved enough to head to the Supreme Court, the NPP will find itself fighting legal battles while the NDC election machine rolls out its strategies ahead of an election year.

The former General Secretary called on the national disciplinary committee to crack the whip on erring party officers and members to bring sanity to the party.
