Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice-Presidential Candidate to Nana Akufo-Addo for the 2016 general election, on Sunday led the commissioning of the newly built Upper West Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Wa.

The new secretariat has been named the Dombo Centre, in memory of the late Chief Simon Dombo, who led the formation of the Northern People’s Party which metamorphosed with other parties to become the United Party and who was an indigene of Duori, in the Upper West region.

The day also saw the commissioning of a second office structure, which will serve as the Regional Youth Secretariat of the Party, also in Wa.

The Commissioning of the two structures, saw the assembly of hundreds of Party executives in the region and constituencies, elders of the party in the region and numerous sympathizers of the Party who thronged both locations to support the commissioning.

Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. Bawumia described the new Party offices as truly befitting of the Upper West region, which is where the spirit of the NPP resides following the enormous contributions of many sons of the land including Chief Dombo, Ben Adama, Abayifaa Karbo, Jato Kaleo and Bin Salih.

Dr. Bawumia noted that despite all the unprecedented resources, the government had accessed in the last seven years, the NDC government had still managed not to fulfil the promises it made to the people of Ghana before they were elected in 2008.

He wondered how a Party which claimed it was more caring and a social democratic party, be the one which is collapsing various social interventions including the NHIS and abolishing other interventions like the Teacher Trainee allowances.

“Everywhere in this economy that we have looked for relief from this government, we have seen more pain and more hardship. Of course, it is clear that this government is a social democratic government in name and propaganda only.

“This is not the type of government we want in this country and this is why we all owe it as a duty, all of us whether you supported the NDC or not, we owe it as a duty to this country and a duty to the future of our children to change this government in 2016”, he said.

Dr. Bawumia stated that the issues confronting Ghana now transcended partisan interests. He asked Ghanaians to make a decision on the basis of whether this government had made their lives better or not.

“We owe it as a duty to bring about a change in this country and that change can only be brought about by one person and through one party and that is Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP Party. I am asking all of you here and all Ghanaians to join hands, it is no more a matter of party, it is a matter of Ghana and a matter of the future of this country.

“I am just asking you a question, are you better off today than under the NPP government? So if you have this record of incompetence, corruption and insensitivity to the people of Ghana, then it is a record that demands that we remove this government and replace it with a government that has the leadership that can demonstrate competence, integrity and vision”, he added.

The Party thanked all members of the Party who contributed to building the new secretariat, especially Alhaji Bin Salih, Alhaji No Condition and Alhaji Millionaire who provided the land on which the Secretariat is situated.

Dr. Bawumia donated a Computer to the Regional Youth Secretariat and three Computers and a Printer to the Dombo Centre, the Regional Party Secretariat, to aid in their functioning.

Present at the Commissioning were a number of Party leaders and elders including, Upper West Regional Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Abubakari Short, Volta Regional Chairman of the Party, John Peter Amewu, former Council of State Member and a Founding Father of the Party, Alhaji Bin Salih, former Regional Minister and Former Deputy Minority Leader, Ambrose Derry, Party elder, Sahanun Mogtari, former National Youth Organizer of the Party, Anthony Karbo and Deputy National Organizer of the Party, Nuhu Mahama.
