The Akwatia constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) donated the computers and accessories given to them by Baba Jamal to an orphanage called Good Shepherd Outreach in the constituency on Monday.

The items, made up of computers, three bags of rice, three boxes of assorted drinks, toiletries, frytol oil and biscuits, were presented on behalf of the party by the regional First Vice Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Bondinga, to the director of the orphanage, Philomena Asantewaa Agyei.

It would be recalled that last week Baba Jamal, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia and Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, donated a computer, UPS, a printer and accessories as well as an amount of GH'500 to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akwatia.

The donation was made during a visit to the NPP's office to interact with the party's constituency executives to find out how best the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP could come together to develop Akwatia.

The gesture was also aimed at fostering peace and unity between NDC and NPP supporters in the area.

'We should all ensure that we work together for the truth. We expect peace and unity to reign in the 2016 general elections and not to repeat the kind of conflict and animosity that characterised previous elections in Akwatia,' Jamal emphasised.

He said in all party political campaigns, it was imperative that both NDC and NPP allowed truth to be the vanguard during and after the 2016 elections.

Interestingly, Baba Jamal has since been moving from one media house to another trumpeting his donation to the NPP in Akwatia.

This, it has been gathered, has created problems within the Akwatia NPP about the motive of Baba Jamal's donation, with some party faithful describing the action as insulting to the party.

Alhaji Baba Yakubu, NPP chairman for Akwatia, told DAILY GUIDE that on 18th March this year, Baba Jamal wrote to the NPP to hold a meeting with the party, to which he declined.

According to him, Baba Jamal came to his house and pleaded with him to allow the meeting to take place, and that after consultation, the NPP agreed to hold the meeting.

Alhaji Baba Yakubu stated that the decision to donate the items to the orphans was because they felt the orphans needed those items and that Baba Jamal should have donated the items to them and not to a political party.

Alhaji Bondinga expressed disappointment at Baba Jamal's attitude after his (Jamal's) donation and warned him to stay away from the activities of the NPP or face the party's wrath.

Receiving the items, Philomena Agyei, thanked the Akwatia NPP for the kind gesture.
