Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah has accused the leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of sabotaging government.

According to him, the union's decision to reduce transport fares just five percent in spite of the 10% decrease in petroleum products is to make the John Mahama-led administration unpopular.

Speaking at a function in the Western region, Solomon Nkansah alleged that the leadership of GPRTU is in bed with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He indicated that the leadership has allowed their affiliation to the NPP to cloud its judgement as a group of public servants.

To corroborate his claim, the NDC Communications Officer said the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the GPRTU, Mr Robert Sarbah, is a leading member of the NPP.

“This man is a serial loser of the NPP parliamentary primaries at Ablekuma constituency,” he stated.

He recalled that in the first year of former President John Kufuor's regime, “the NPP first increased fuel by 64% and GPRTU was made to increase fares by 15%. The following period, they increased fuel by 94% and GPRTU was made to increase fares by 20% so what has changed?”

Solomon Nkansah urged Ghanaians to boycott the GPRTU to demonstrate their displeasure at their conduct.

“Ghanaians should boycott the GPRTU; if possible walk to work to ensure they reduce transport fares,” he stressed.
