Ade Coker Warns Nyaunu: ‘Don't Discuss NDC Matters’

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned Michael Teye Nyaunu to refrain from discussing matters relating to the party.

Joseph Ade Coker told  Citi News , the former Lower Manya Krobo legislator is no longer a member of the NDC therefore; he has no locus to call on party members to contest against President John Mahama in the party's presidential primaries.

Nyaunu on Friday challenged NDC members of good standing to ready themselves to  contest against President Mahama  in the flagbearership slot of the party.

This, he said will deepen democracy because it will be wrong for President Mahama to stand for the flagbearership position unopposed.

In response, Ade Coker stated that the party is currently focused on electing new executives therefore, discussions on who will represent the party in the 2016 elections is premature.

He said: 'This issue is not on the table now and the gentleman who made that statement I think has left the NDC long ago and has joined another party so I think it will be appropriate for him to speak about what is in his party than to come and speak about what is in NDC.'

Ade Coker warned Nyaunu to desist from commenting on NDC matters saying, 'you can't stand somewhere and talk about somebody's party. The gentleman has left our party…the person has left the NDC to go and join NDP and then he comes to speak on an NDC matter which is not relevant at the moment.'

The controversial Teye Nyaunu also called on NDC delegates to vote out all the current national executives because their performance over the years has been abysmal.

But the Greater Accra Regional chairman says his reasons are unfounded since the current executives won the 2012 elections for the NDC.

'We won the elections and when his party went to the election, how many votes did they get?' he asked.

Ade Coker subsequently taunted Nyaunu for losing his Parliamentary seat saying, 'if he was a competent person, his party should have won the election so the officers that he is asking them to be removed, who won the elections for the NDC for the NDC to gain power so what is he talking about?

In 2012, Teye Nyaunu defected from the NDC to the National Democratic Party (NDP); a split political party from the NDC.

The NDP was formed by the NDC founder Jerry John Rawlings' wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings ahead of the 2012 general elections after she failed in her bid to lead the NDC.

Nyaunu stated that he defected from the NDC because the party had not been fair to him, especially during the party's Parliamentary primaries in his constituency which he lost.
