Disgruntled NDC aspirants call for annulment as incumbents go unopposed
22.08.2014 LISTEN

Some disgruntled aspirants of the National Democratic Congress in the Karaga constituency of the Northern Region have slammed the regional vetting committee for a 'shambolic' process that saw incumbents sworn in unopposed.

The 12 aspirants are accusing the Northern Regional vetting committee of the party of side stepping laid down guidelines of picking aspirants for the party officers' position in the constituency.

In a petition to the NDC Northern Regional Executive committee, the disgruntled aspirants are calling for the annulment of the results.

The NDC has started an electoral process that will culminate into a National  Congress,  slated for 24- 26 October this year where national executives will be elected. T he party is currently conducting constituency elections which is expected to end October, 5.

According to article 6(D) of the guidelines of the NDC party states that: ''the vetting committee shall communicate its conclusion to each nominee and copy the regional executive committee''

''Any person dissatisfied with the outcome of the vetting report shall have right of appeal to the regional executive committee''.

The aspirants said they didn't receive any vetting report from the vetting committee let alone appeal to the Regional Executive Committee if there was any clear grounds to disqualify any of them as catered for in the above provision of the election guidelines.

The group also indicated that the Electoral Commission officials reported that nobody filed as at the close of nomination and hence the 'shambolic' acclamation which saw  all incumbent executives maintain their positions except the deputy youth organizer.

The group further stated in the petition that some people were sworn in as executives of the party though they didn't file for such positions.

The disgruntled aspirants are therefore calling on the Regional Executive Committee to annul the supposed popular acclamation that took place last Monday.

In their view ''is the only way to restore the dignity and the respect of the National and Regional Executive Committees in the constituency''.

The regional secretary of the party Alhaji Yussif Umar told Joy News admitted that no vetting report was produced when requested.

He said the aspirants were verbally told they have been disqualified as a convention in the party which the group vehemently disagree with.
