The National Women's Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otiko Afisa Djaba has made a passionate appeal to 'feuding factions' in the party to “ceasefire” as it prepares for its special delegates congress.

“I want to urge all party members who are part of the problems to bury their differences, and join hands to ensure there is unity in NPP” she stated.

Otiko Djaba's call comes after some machete wielding youth attacked the party's headquarters disrupting a news conference by the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.

This was to demonstrate their displeasure over the appointment of Deputy Communication Directors and also the unilateral decision by the General Secretary to compel the acting Communications Director, Perry Okudzeto to proceed on compulsory leave.

The situation was chaotic and the police had to be called in to restore law and order. This development many fear could affect the electoral fortunes of the NPP ahead of the 2016 general elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Otiko Djaba described as unfortunate how a domestic matter has escalated to this level.

According to her, the accusations and counter-accusations by some national executives are only sending a wrong signal that “we are not ready for power”.

The National Womens Organizer was particularly worried about the entrenched position taken by some members which in her estimation could gravely affect party unity.

“We cannot shirk our responsibility; we claim to be a government in waiting so if there is a problem; let's find a solution to it” she added.

Otiko Djaba urged party members to be mindful of their utterances [which] could be missiles for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.

“We must exercise restraint and tolerance as a family and learn to forgive each other because we need power in 2016” she stressed. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
