Nkrumahist Merger Not True—GCPP Leader “Prays”

19.08.2014 LISTEN
By Nana Yaw Reuben Jnr.

2012 presidential candidate of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP)Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey has debunked claims by General Secretary ofthe People's National Convention (PNC) that four Nkrumahist political parties in Ghana including the GCPP have agreed on a merger.

Mr. Mornah said this at a meeting with Brong-Ahafo Regional and Constituency Executives of the party in Sunyani when he led a three-man delegation to attend the final funeral rites of Philip Nsor Asena Akanzinge, who died in a road crash on the Sunyani-Techiman road on July 5.

He pointed to executives that in view of the proposed merger, PNC would hold a national executive meeting in Accra on August 23 to collate views from members and advised constituency officers in the region to solicit views of their members for the meeting.

Adding he was optimistic the merger would create a formidable political party to contest Election 2016 because most Ghanaians were anxiously waiting for an equally strong and competitive political party to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to save the country from bad governance

But in a sharp rebuttal, the Leader and Chairman of the (GCPP), Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey described Mornah's comments as totally untrue. “I have never met Mornah and we have never met to talk anything about merger”, he said. Adding, “Mr. Mornah must be careful with the way he dialogues and be more professional when dealing with Ghanaian voters”.

Dr. Henry Lartey said what they are doing now is the formation of what they call Association of Political Parties in Ghana, (APPG).

He disclosed parties joining the association includethe Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), the Democratic People's Party (DPP), the United Front Party (UFP), the Independent People's Party(IPP), the New Vision Party(NVP) and the Yes People's Party(YPP).

The association believes the current political system of Ghana needs serious changes and they want to revolutionizewhat they say is an unfriendly system and offer constructive ideas and policies.

The Association is also amongst other things expected to offer alternative solutions to the political and socio-economic challenges facing Ghanaians.

He urged all Ghanaians to support the association to become the third force to unseat the NPP and the NDC.
