The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Hannah Tetteh on Tuesday, 1st July, 2014, came under strong criticism for mocking the number of demonstrators that took part in the 'Occupy Flagstaff House' protest.

Hundreds of protestors on Ghana's 54th Republic Day marched from the Efua Sutherland Children's Park to the Flagstaff House in protest at what they described as the poor state of the country's economy.

The demonstration was organised by a non-partisan group called, Concerned Ghanaians for Responsible Governance (CGRG) and their mode of mobilization was via the internet.

The number of people who took part in the demonstration did not impress Ms Hannah Tetteh as she tweeted that she was surprised.

However, several people who were following her tweets expressed disappointment at her comments on social media.

Speaking to the issue during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' on Wednesday, Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. said 'numbers do not count in such protests'

'I don't think the NDC are learningit is not always about numbers. Moreover, the nature of mobilisation was different,' he told Kwami Sefa Kayi host of the programme.

According to him, even if what the Minister for Foreign Affairs said was true, many were those who followed the organisers and their views on social media and 'that also counts'.

Meanwhile, organizers of the 'Occupy Flagstaff House' demonstration say Ghana's Parliament is next on the list of institutions they plan to occupy.

According to them, they want to make every arm of government responsible and accountable to Ghanaians.
