NPP Ready For 2016

The credible and peaceful manner in which the internal elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were conducted – from the polling stations to the national level – was clear indication of the commitment of the NPP to recapture power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general elections.

Apart from that, it is no secret that Ghanaians are fed up with the abysmal performance of the NDC government and are ready to show the NDC the exit through the power of their thumbs.

Kwesi Buah, Ahanta West constituency secretary of the NPP, speaking in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, observed that the NDC government had driven Ghana into a state of despondency due to poor leadership and lack of vision.

According to him, the massive corruption and looting by some government officials and their cronies had left the ordinary Ghanaian in abject poverty.

'The corruption in the current government is so overwhelming that Ghanaians do not need a fortune-teller to tell them that the president does not have the qualities to motivate the people towards achieving the desired development objectives. This country is in deep economic crisis', Mr. Kwesi Buah asserted.

He mentioned the alleged rot at the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) and The  Savannah Accelerated Development Authority  ( SADA ) as well as all forms of 'create loot and share' under the guise of judgement debt.

 
 
He also described the upward adjustment of fuel prices and utility charges as 'unwarranted' and rubbished the intention of the government not to increase the salaries of workers.

Mr. Buah indicated that the Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 presidential election petition had taught the NPP a great lesson, stressing that 'in this country election has to be won at the polling stations.'

He declared, 'In 2016 there is not going to be anything like court. Never! It will not happen.  Here in the Ahanta West, we are sending the signal that the NPP will resist any form of irregularity as per the electoral laws at the polling stations'.

He added, 'In 2016, we will resist any attempt to allow any individual to vote without biometric verification, irrespective of the person's status in society. Common logic tells us that it is not for nothing that the nation spent huge sums of money to procure the biometric devices and computers for electronic version of the voters' register.'

He indicated that in 2016, the NPP in the constituency would reject any pink sheet of over-voting at the collation centre because according to him, there is no logic in having extra thumb printed ballot paper in a supposed transparent ballot box, to be defined as 'foreign materials or ballot stuffing' by no other body but the Electoral Commission – which is constitutionally mandated to conduct elections in this country – as if that was fair in an election.

He stressed that the NPP was preparing fully to fight irregularities immediately they occurred before the results could get to the next level of the electoral process.

'The will of the people must reign in 2016. That is our hope and we will fight to attain that hope', he vowed.
