Fred Oware Congratulates New NPP Leaders

Former First Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Fred Oware has congratulated the New National Executive Officers of the Party, on their election, as well as Party Delegates, for being part of a successful National Delegates Conference.

The Conference which was held in at the Tamale Sports stadium witnessed the election of National Executive Officers to steer the affairs of the Party for the next four years.

Mr. Oware, who contested the National Chairmanship position, came third, polling a respectable 1135 votes to beat his incumbent, Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, who could only manage a paltry 66 votes. The position was won by Mr. Paul Afoko who polled a commanding 2,034 votes.

Speaking to the Press after the contest, the former 1st Vice-Chairman expressed his gratitude to all delegates who voted for him, as well as the Party as a whole, for giving him the opportunity to serve in the high office of First Vice-Chair.

He expressed his total acceptance of the results as declared, and promised to continue being a committed member of the NPP, and working tirelessly, to ensure that the Party wins power in 2016.

Mr. Oware also commended the National Election Committee of the Party as well as the National Electoral Commission, for taking the Party through a clean and credible electoral process.

He advised the newly elected National Executive Officers to take a cue from the outcome of the just held Delegates Conference and work hard to materialize the promise they have made to the Party, which is to lead them to victory in 2016. “The outcome of this Conference should tell the newly elected National Executives, that our delegates will not accept explanations, reasons or excuses, if they fail to deliver”, he said.

He further urged the newly elected executives to endeavor to extend bridges to various factions within the Party, in order to foster unity for the bigger job ahead.

Mr. Oware also used the opportunity to congratulate the media, and officers of the National Security apparatus for their commitment to duty by covering the entire Conference, right down to dawn and ensuring a largely peaceful conference.

The New Patriotic Party on April 12th 2014, held its 16th Special National Delegates Conference in the Northern Regional Capital of Tamale, to elect National Executive Officers, to steer the affairs of the Party, for a four year term.

The Conference which was held under the theme: “Our Roots, Our Strength, Our Future”, was also used to honour leading figures of Party, including Mr. C. K. Tedam-founding Member and Chairman of the Elections Committee of the Party, and H.E Alhaji Aliu Mahama-former Vice-President of Ghana under H.E John Agyekum Kufuor's Administration.

The event witnessed the rejection of all former National Executives who run for re-election by the about 5200 delegates present, except Otiko Afisah Djaba, who retained her position as National Women's Organiser.

Other National Executive Officers including Jake Obetsebi Lamptey-former National Chairman, Kwodjo Owusu Afriyie (a.k.a. Sir John)-former General Secretary, Alhaji Moctar Bamba- former National Organiser, and Esther Ofori-former National Treasurer, were all rejected by the Party's delegates.
