NPP is going to disintegrate and scatter into pieces - Allotey Jacobs
21.12.2012 LISTEN

The Central Region Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has predicted that the New Patriotic Party will implode and splinter along tribal lines if the leadership of the party fails to tell the truth about its electoral loss.

According to Mr Allotey Jacobs, the signs of the implosion are already visible, with reports – mostly in NDC-inclined newspapers -of frictions between Akyems and Asantes intent on dominating the party.

The NDC communications director made the claim on Adom TV's Badwam morning show on Thursday December 20, 2012 hosted by Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong (KABA).

Making allusions to previous events on Ghana's political scene in 1979, when some members of the tradition that has now formed the NPP failed to resolve their internal disagreements and eventually split into several parties to contest the elections and lost miserably, Allotey Jacobs said:

“An implosion is taking place in the NPP. It has started. Very soon you will see the party will disintegrate and scatter into pieces. History is repeating itself. If you look at the calls coming from within the NPP that you either go to court or forget it, these calls are coming from a group of people from a certain region, Ashanti region, and this is building up a certain tension in another group of persons within a certain region, Eastern region.

“If you look at (the history of) Danquah-Busia tradition, its leadership is made up of Akyems and Ashantis, and the struggle has been there since UGCC. The Fantes and Ahantas and the Nzema people play the third role. The most leading role comes from those from Asante and Akyem.

“It's gradually building up. I say an implosion is taking place in NPP.”

He said the struggle for leadership had already started with the printing of “Alan For 2016” posters in Kumasi just hours after the Electoral Commission declared Nana Akufo-Addo, an Akyem, loser in the December 7 poll, although Ms Hilda Addo, spokesperson for Alan Kyerematen denied the former Trade Minister was behind the printing of the posters and accused elements within the NPP of seeking to foment trouble for him.

Mr Allotey Jacobs accused the leadership of the NPP of speaking like Biblical prophet Baal, “deceiving and inciting the people, because they know they are lying. All the talk about going to court and having results is bogus.

“This election is unveiling the human nature of NPP, and Ghanaians will know, and decipher.”
