The Electoral Commission has denied claims by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it is inviting its polling agents to a special meeting.

This follows the party's rejection of the electoral results and its subsequent threat to seek legal redress. The NPP issued a statement on Friday cautioning its polling agents against participating in any such meeting.

It said its agents in the Eastern, Volta, Northern and other regions have received invitations for the supposed meeting from the EC.

But Chairman of the EC Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan says the claims are false.

“We are not inviting anybody. It is not true; it is not true. I don't have any idea about it; it is not true,” he vehemently denied.

He expressed disquiet about the allegation wondering why such spurious allegations will be made against the Commission.

“Why would we call their agents to a meeting? For what? We are calling NPP agents to a meeting for what?... They are not our agents. They appointed them, we didn't appoint them [so] why should we invite them to a meeting?”

Dr. Afari Gyan said the allegations do not make sense and must be stopped.

Meanwhile, leaders of the NPP say they are hitting Kumasi on Tuesday to demonstrate against the EC's declaration of President Mahama as the president-elect after last week's general elections.

The party says there was widespread rigging in the polls despite reports by various groups who passed the elections as largely transparent, free and fair.
