The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal says the defeat of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Friday's general elections was a punishment from God.

He indicated that the vile propaganda the NPP used to impugn the integrity of people in government during the electioneering campaign was enough to invoke the curse of God on the party.

Baba Jamal made the comment on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday.

The opposition party has challenged Friday's election results citing discrepancies in most polling centre in it strongholds.

The NPP after a crunch National Executive meeting has decided not to accept the results but rather petition the Supreme Court to overturn the declaration of President Mahama as winner of the polls.

But Baba Jamal maintained that the NPP is now reaping from the bad seed it sowed against the NDC.

According to him, even though the opposition party based their campaign on unfounded allegations against government, Ghanaians voted massively against them because they prove to be insensitive to peoples integrity.

The Deputy Tourism Minister who made the headlines in August last year over a controversial secret tape recording in which he was alleged to be bribing journalists to massage information to favour government said he has been vindicated by the NPP defeat.

“I am a principled man and will never go out and deliberately peddle untruth to the people of Ghana”.

He observed that their [NPP] defeat will serve as a deterrent to any political party which intends to win power by destroying their opponent.

The Parliamentary candidate elect for Akwatia constituency was convinced God will never allow evil to triumph over light.

“I was convinced within me that God will not allow lies to triumph over truth. There was no way the NPP could have won the election with lies” he added.

Baba Jamal said the NPP has lost the election gracefully and thus must accept the results in good faith.
