News Accra Mall stolen Panties Incident: Chdscghana Condemns Gender Based Violence In Ghana
FEB 27, 2014 LISTEN

A Ghanaian non-governmental organisation, the Centre for Human Development and Social Change,Ghana aka CHDSCGHANA has condemned the recent humiliation of three young women who were suspected of having stolen panties from the Accra Shopping Mall, as an act of gender violence that infringes on the rights of the suspects and is an indication of high incidence of violence against the Ghanaian woman in our society and appealed to all to stop the violation.

The C.E.O of the non-profit, Ms Felicia Okine described the whole Accra Mall incident where three young women suspected as having stolen panties and were forced to crawl all over in the Mall as eye witnesses took photos and made videos, posting them on social media and them going viral as unfortunate thing that should happen in Ghana in this 21st Century. She said, Ghana's constitution should be respected and that suspects' rights to defend should always be given in court but not security personnel subjecting people to all sorts of inhuman treatments. She said, this incident and other recent r mob justice reports in Kumasi, Cape Coast and other places throws light on the need for the masses to be educated on human rights and on how to treat suspects, not to subject them to instant justice where many a time, suspects have been killed.

Many of these incidents must be condemned by all human rights advocates and right thinking Ghanaians. The CHDSCGHANA has appealed to the Ghana Police to investigate the Accra Mall incident and the necessary action taken.
