Ghanaians And Nigerians In America To Host Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy And Frank Mensah Pozo

Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy and Frank Pozo Mensah, two Ghanaian classic highlife musicians are about to take America by storm with their brand of entertainment that have captivated the Ghanaian music scenes for years.

In a US performance tour which is scheduled from September through December is being sponsored by the Ghana Association of Long Island, New York. The powerful duo would be backed by a strong contingent of versatile musicians who would perform live in many venues across the States of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Abirekyieba Kofi Sammy, a winner of many local and International Music awards is known all over Ghana and among the Ghanaian and the Nigerian Diaspora for his unique style of singing and instrumentation with hits music such as Yellow Sisi, Agya Nyame Kyir Bone, Take Time and many others. He has over 20 albums. An experienced International musician, his collaboration with Ghana's Dr. Paa Bobo secured them many years of performance tour and contracts in Nigeria. They won many following in Nigeria including government officials, international workers and music critics. No wonder one can sense the Kofi Sammy influence on Nigeria's highlife music. The same can also be said of Nigerian impacts on Kofi Sammy's music especially the percussion style and the singing in Pidgin English.

Frank Mensah Pozo is a physically challenged musician who has been performing in many Ghanaian live bands for over 20 years. He has about 6 albums and been featured on many albums by other Ghanaian popular musicians such as Pat Thomas, Amakye Dede, Pozo Hayes, late Tony Wiredu, Alex Konadu and numerous appearance on some of the contemporary youth music of Ghana called Hiplife.

Plans are also been made to give American high school students at the Facing History School in New York another opportunity to sample the educational components and works of these two musicians and their band Okukuseku International. The Facing History School have hosted many Ghanaian and International performers as part of their Multicultural Education under a Ghanaian ethnomusicologist and educator, Mr. Harold Akyeampong. Among the Ghanaian musicians and groups who have performed at the school are the Elmina Dance Ensemble, Papa Yankson, Obouba J.A Adofo and the most one was Dr. Paa Bobo and his International band.
