Ghanaian Ngo, Chdscghana To Host New York University's Center For Global Studies

A Ghanaian non-profit organisation, the Centre for Human Development & Social Change,Ghana aka CHDSCGhana has been selected as one of the progressive and well-established NGOs in Ghana for partnership and focus for a study trip by the prestigious New York University of New York , United States of America.

A group of graduate students from New York University's Center for Global Affairs is undertaking a study trip to Ghana in June. The trip is led by Barbara Borst, an adjunct associate professor of the Center; It is through this programme that the partnership for cooperation, development and progress between the USA and the Ghana is being established. The course examines various aspects of development, and a number of students are writing their research papers on issues that the Centre addresses. They would be particularly interested in meeting with members of CHDSCGhana to learn more about the work that the CHDSCGhana does in Ghana.

The Center for Global Affairs at NYU's School of Continuing and Professional Studies educates and inspires students to become global citizens capable of identifying and implementing solutions to pressing global challenges.

The Centre for Human Development and Social Change (CHDSCGhana) is a non-governmental organization operating in Ghana. It is a coalition and partnership of a number of community organizations and civil societies committed to human development and constructive social change.

While in Ghana the graduate students who will also visit the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding and Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, will focus on the following areas of academic inquiries:

“Benefits-harms analysis of development work/policies in Ghana, as well as a look at peacebuilding initiatives “

“The opportunity to analyze the various dimensions of development which will allow the students gain a better understanding of challenges and opportunities for development.”

“To develop a greater understanding of how the promotion of democracy, human rights and justice contribute to Ghana's overall development.”

Among the CHDSCGhana staff the NYU students and staff will meet in a special ceremony at Mankessim on the 7th June, 2011 are Nana Kofi Akoonu Akyampong, a traditional chief and an ex-assembly member of Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, Mrs. Felicia Naa Morkor, the CEO of the CHDSCGhana, Mr. Seidu Christopher, the Director of Special Programmes and Events, Ms. Roselind Maame Ankomah, Ms Ruth Odoom and Mr. Elvis Williams Dumehassie, all Programme Coordinators and Opanyin Agya Mbir, the CHDSCGhana's representative at the Kakum and Gyankobo Communities. Asafo Baatan Agya Essuman and Dr. K. Quainoo will be joint chairmen for the special ceremony.

The New York University will also be on Nyansaboakwa of Happy FM's programme to commend him on his positive contributions to democratic practices in Ghana through his programme NSEM PII and as a Public relations and Cultural consultant to the CHDSCGhana and OBAATANPA International.

According to the International Relations Director of the CHDSCGhana, Mr. Harold Akyeampong who met with the students' representative for the Study Trip, Ms Trudy Roberts in New York recently, all things are being put in place to strengthen the capacity of the two institutions working as partnership for development, progress and global peace.
