Samia And Samira: Like Two Grazing Gazelles

23.10.2008 LISTEN
By

For the moment, set aside their captivating beauty.  For now, forget about their beautiful complexion.  Do not think of their inviting lips.  Focus instead on their boldness as they take the Ghanaian political terrain by storm.

Samira and Samia, two fine ladies of a kind.  Samia is my dream parliamentarian in-waiting and Samira, my dream 2nd Lady in-waiting.

When little Samia Nkrumah was leaving the shores of Ghana with her mother following the overthrow of her father's government, little did she know that one day she will come back to fight her father's battle.  Today, here she is, trying to redeem her father's party from the hands of pretenders.

On her return from her sojourn in far away Italy, she made it very clear to whosoever cared to listen that she had come to fight for the revival of the CPP.  Unlike her brother who has pitched camp with the opposition NDC, this fair lady is convinced that like Barbarosa, the Osagyefo shall rise again.

By now the Osagyefo is smiling in his grave after weeping when his son, Sekou Nkrumah joined hands with the man who overthrew the PNP, an offshoot of the CPP. At long last, his daughter is in to salvage the image of the party he braced all odds to establish and nurtured.

As a Young Pioneer, when we used to recite the “Nkrumah never dies” pledge, we did not know that the small girl who used to sit on the lap of Madam Fathia Nkrumah during Independence Day celebrations would be the one to make the dream of 'Nkrumah never dies” come to reality.

What this lady should do is to stay focused and go about her campaign.  Her brother, the prodigal Sekou will try to tickle her but she should ignore him and go all out to win the seat.

With less than two months to go for the general elections, those who matter in the CPP like Hon. Freddie Blay, Hon. Kojo Armah and the old guards should lend a helping hand to the lady.  She has chosen the right path but what is left is for the party to oil her campaign wagon to enable her win, hands down.  Who knows, she may use the opportunity to become the first female president of Ghana one day.

Her father did it in a relatively short period when he returned from Philadelphia to become the General Secretary of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and thereafter broke away to form the Convention People's Party.  History may repeat itself with Samia in Parliament.

And this dame called Samira Bawumia.  She fascinates me a lot.  Since her husband was chosen as a running mate to the NPP flagbearer, she has not seen rest. Like Madam Rebecca Akufo-Addo, this girl is taking politics to another level.

The first time I heard her deliver a speech at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, I admired her Intelligence Quotient (IQ) as well as her Emotional Quotient (EQ).  She spoke with confidence and never faltered in her delivery.  She will draw her veil closer to her forehead, smile like an innocent girl and continue with her thought-provoking speech.

Undoubtedly, because of the entry of Samira, there will be a dramatic change in the voting pattern of the people of the zongos. Have you observed how girls from the zongo areas have been trooping behind Samira anytime she goes out campaigning?

They see her as a role model and the men too admire her humility.  Dr. Bawumia must be a lucky man indeed! If the pendulum swings right, Samira would become the youngest 2nd Lady of Ghana (Insha Alla!!!).  And if that comes to pass, Ghana stands to gain.  Apart from her level of education, she will bring to the presidency a charming face of confidence and youthful exuberance.

You see, every generation gets a wake-up call and this is theirs, I mean Samira and Samia.  Our parents and grandparents had what it took, and Samira and Samia do too. They look smart, responsible, hardworking and can be the next Greatest Generation.

These two dames should consider themselves as two of a kind.  They should be careful in their utterances and avoid acidic commentaries.  If they do these things, their dignity would be maintained.  Here in Ghana, politicians pray and hope that their opponents would slip so that they would pounce on the one to unleash the usual vitriolic invectives.

See how they have been wheeling Ama Benyiwa Doe around like an empty juggernaut! It is because of the harsh manner she comments on issues.

Thankfully, so far, like Caesar's wife, Samira and Samia have lived above reproach. Their handlers should work hard to keep them away from doing anything untoward so that the trust that we have for them will remain so. These are priceless gems we can not afford to leave in the hands of irresponsible politicians who are only out for a mischief.  Good morning and accept the blessings of an Earth Angel, my fair ladies!!!
