The Daily Dispatch says a survey it carried out between June and July, 2007, on a wide range of issues, established that journalists were more trustworthy than politicians.
The work sought the views of over 70% of registered voters in over 155 constituencies in all the regions. The over 3,500 respondents were asked on which of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants they liked; to rank, out of 100 percent, the performances of the NPP government in certain categories; if elections were held (in July), the party which was likely to win, voter attitudes, that is the basis on which they would vote for a presidential candidate in December, 2008 and which of the two professions they trust, politician, Journalist or neither.
An analysis of the results nationally, shows that nearly a fifth, (18.6%) do not trust either the politician or Journalist. 13.4% trusted the Politician and over two-thirds (68%) trusted the journalist.
The Central Region (28.5%); Western (24.4%); Greater Accra (23.7%) and Volta Region (23.7%) were the three regions where respondents did not trust either the politician or journalist.
The three regions which trusted politicians more were Vo1ta (27.1%) Eastern (15.5%), Western (14.7%) and Brong Ahafo (14.2%).
Upper West (85.5%); Northern (83.3%); Upper East (82.8%) and Ashanti (77%) were the regions which trusted journalists more.
