Community Foundations: A Tool for Engaging Youth in Community Driven Development
Community Driven Development (CDD) approaches present an effective means to involve young people in local development decision-making, giving them voice and influencing power, with benefits for themselves and their communities. This note highlights a range of key learning points emerging from years of international experience with Youth Banks and Youth Advisory Committees, an innovative tool for engaging youth in their communities. Community Foundations hosting Youth Advisory Committees or Youth Banks see youth in the community as a resource to be tapped into, not a problem to be solved. They see the best way for utilizing the energy and creativity of young people in giving them a large share of responsibility for the identification of youth needs and opportunities for youth engagement, selection of priority projects, grantmaking, implementation of projects, their monitoring as well as raising funds needed for the work.

The Covenant Our Path to Globalization
Our independence is meaningless until the total liberation of our minds; it is said “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”. Our time is here and now, we can t keep doing the same things and expect different results. The only way to get a different result is to CHANGE. Change as difficult as it may be is necessary. Changes allow us to grow and help us take on new challenges.
I have selected to discuss this topic because there is the need for it. The discussion will be focus on the four most important issues facing society: Education; Leadership; Community and Business. The fabric of society hinges on these topics

Infrastructure development to support growth
The transport sector plays a key role in economic development. In West Africa, the sector generates about 6% of GDP. However, inefficiency prevails due to the high cost of vehicle operation on poor roads. Furthermore, transport and transit costs for landlocked countries such as Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger are up to 50% higher than for countries with direct access to the sea. These high transport and transit costs translate into high prices of goods to consumers and loss of external competitiveness. In Ghana, roads are the predominant mode of transport accounting for about 94% of freight and 97% of passenger traffic movements. The subsector is the most viable alternative except for rail to transport bulk commodities like manganese, bauxite, timber and cocoa. The railway network operates at limited capacity with low efficiency.

Ghana: Accelerating Growth to Halve Poverty
Ghana is currently one of the best-performing economies in Africa. By improving policies and institutions, and investing in infrastructure and basic services, Ghana has brought down poverty levels from 52 percent in 1992 to 35 percent in 2003. It is likely to surpass the Millennium Development Goal of halving poverty by 2015. Economic growth has averaged 4.5 percent from 1983 through 2000, but accelerated to 5.8 percent in 2004 and 6 percent in 2005 in response to the government’s program of reforms. Ghanaians’ access to electricity is the highest in Sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa. All of this augurs well for Ghana to achieve middle-income country status by 2015.

SPEECH BY H.E. J.J. RAWLINGS AT THE S. I. COCKTAIL (15TH JUNE 2007)
Most of Black Africa still lives of the dictates of our colonial masters with a multiplying effect on their citizens.
America may have woken to the shock of terrorism of Sept 11 2001. We in Black Africa survived the terror of slavery, the terror of colonialism and we are barely surviving the neo colonialism in a unipolar world that has lost international morality and does not give a damn about public judicial consciousness.
The Global unipolar leadership could not have provided a more opportune climate for the nurturing of tyrannical regimes.

NDC Press Release on Labour Day Celebration
On a day like this, the day for workers, I share in the concerns of workers of this country of ours.
The country is experiencing a wave of labour unrest which is unprecedented and it is not because workers are unjustifiably demanding for more than is due them.
Workers have continued to put in their best, and agitate for better conditions of service only when the need arises for them to make sure that what they receive is not only in tandem with the effort they put in, but more importantly, meet the exigencies of the times.

NDC Statement on Energy Crisis By Prof. Mills
Our country’s energy sector is in dire crisis. The Akosombo hydro-electric dam, a symbol of the visionary leadership and foresight of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is under threat. Unfortunately, instead of President Kufuor and the NPP Government facing the facts, rolling up their sleeves and harnessing all the available expertise the nation has, to solve the problem, they are, as usual, resorting to falsehood, deception and diversions. I have invited you here this morning to enable us cut through the deception to appreciating what has brought us to this crisis and to outline some of the urgent steps that need to be taken.

Letter to Attorney General and Minister of Justice (Death penalty in Ghana)
Dear Minister, “Everyone has the right to life”! This was stated for the first time in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Since then more than two-thirds of all countries in the world have abolished the death penalty in law or in practice. This is only consistent, as the death penalty has been shown not to have a particularly deterring effect and is a great human rights violation in the light of its cruel application and irreversibility.

NDC'S TRUE STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS
Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen, just last Thursday, February 08, 2007, President J.A. Kufour read his message on the State of the Nation to Parliament. In that speech, he challenged members to do a critical mid-term analysis with candour and sincerity on the state of the nation. This is exactly what we intend to do in this piece.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the President in his State of the Nation Address presents a picture of hope, progress, and achievement instead of the actual picture of desperation and despair, doom and gloom of the future and the dark clouds of fear and insecurity hanging on the lives of the majority of citizens of this nation.

Prof Mills Mills damns Kufuor @ Press Conference 29.01.07
Thank you for responding to my invitation to attend this press conference.
First of all, I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the NDC delegates and members who were at Legon for electing me as the party’s Presidential candidate for the 2008 elections. I wish to assure the entire nation that I will wage a relentless campaign but devoid of any insults or names calling. Mine will be a campaign based on issues and what the NDC will do to better the lot of Ghanaians when elected to power in 2008.

Global Economic Developments 28. Mr. Speaker, after a disappointing performance in 2002 when hopes of recovery faded and the downward slide in global activity continued, 2003 saw the start of the long-awaited global economic upswing.
