Concrete block is a building material which is used to construct the walls. Concrete block can also be called as CMU (concrete masonry unit).Its a precast concrete material which should be hardened before bringing it to the site. It has one or more hollow cavities & their sides may either be designed or normal. Concrete blocks were first introduced in United States. And it becomes popular in India now. Mixing, Molding, Curing, Cubing are the important process for the production of concrete blocks.
Designed concrete blocks would be used at the entrance of the building or at the outer. Sand, Pavel and cement are the important things which are used for mixing process. The pan mixer or planetary will be used to mix the materials. After the materials are blended, little amount of water will be added to mix the products well.
Then the mixer will be dumped into a conveyor and transported to an elevated hopper. The block machine will be molded the blocks and the block cavities. There are 2 types of curing: 1. Low pressure steam kiln wherein the blocks are kept in a kiln for one to three hours with room temperature to get hardened and the hollow blocks will be allowed to soak in moist air for 12 to 18 hrs. The curing cycle takes 24 hours. 2. High pressure steam kiln (Autoclave). The temperature in this process is 300 to 375°F.In this process; the blocks will be allowed to soak for ten hours. Pallets are used to cube the blocks in an appropriate sizes. Ultrasonic sensors may be used to check up the water level in sand and gravel. The height of the block will be determined with laser beam sensors when they emerge from the block machine. During curing kiln, the pressures, temperatures and the cycle times are recorded and controlled automatically
